CE UPDATE: INTRODUCING “CHILDREN’S CHURCH”
BEGINNING THIS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th
This Sunday, September 16, during our 9:30am worship hour, our children will be invited to join us for Children's Church. This will be led by our Interim Christian Education Director, Rev. Dr. Lois Wilson. Children of all ages will begin in our regular service and journey to Children's Church together in the Gathering Room on the ground floor of our newly remodeled Anderson Wing. A nursery is also available for infants and their caregivers.
Our innovative Children's Church program is both ancient and new. It is rooted in the belief that children are an essential part of the life of the church. We believe children are capable of learning about and knowing God through participation in worship and life in community. We will be building a joyful worshiping community during our Children's Church time. With Pastor Lois, our children will be worshiping together with music, singing, prayer, movement, and hands-on activities. Parents, guardians, and members are always welcome to join in the fun and see what it's all about!
Christian Education matters. Pastor Lois has worked with children, youth and families for three decades. She spent 25 years in Philadelphia, where she raised five children, now young adults ages 21 to 31. (They are her favorite people.) Lois has been a home birth midwife, social worker, special education teacher, seminary professor, activist and UCC pastor. Pastor Lois holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Masters Degrees in Theology, Divinity and Special Education, and a Doctorate in Art and Theology. She believes that children and youth are deeply spiritual beings, and that nurturing their spiritual development is a serious and sacred challenge.
Pastor Lois also believes in including the parents and guardians of children every step of the way, and here at Brookside she sees a community that is willing to jump in and do just that! She believes with her whole heart that God is Love...no exceptions!
INTRODUCING BROOK SINGERS
As a part of our exciting new church year, we will be starting an intentional children's/youth choir that will not only learn a few songs, but will also train our younger congregants in worship leadership - specifically, how to sing in a choir as part of a music ministry.
Under Amy’s mentorship, Ari Carillo, the Children's Choir Director, will lead this group called The Brook Singers. Amy has over 25 years of experience teaching children how to sing in an educational choral setting. Currently in her 15th year as the music teacher at Gill St. Bernard's, her real love is teaching children to be lifelong music lovers in a choir setting. Ari is a junior at Westminster Choir College, one of the top choir colleges in America, studying choral church music. Together with your children and youth, Amy and Ari are going to work to enhance the worship experience of the entire Brookside Community Church as the singers musical skills improve.
Below you will find answers to your questions about schedules, both Regular Rehearsal Sundays (which aren't every week!) and the Sundays where The Brook Singers will lead in the 9:30 am Worship Service.

*Please check the schedule below and add the rehearsal and worship service participation to your family calendar. The choir’s success depends on consistent participation and teamwork.

Just tell your young person to talk to Ari or Amy on Sunday to get the welcome bag full of goodies!
We believe that all people are creative and musical and should have the opportunity to develop these gifts as they learn about music, specifically as they learn how to be a choir member leading in worship. Brookside Community Church seeks to inspire a love of music in children as they learn choral and musical skills to enhance our worship services throughout the year. If you have any questions, please call Amy Southerland at 862-686-2573.
ATTN: Special Congregational Meeting—Sunday, Oct 7th
Following our Communion Service on Sunday, October 7th, Brookside Church will kick off our Fall 2018 Stewardship Drive with a special congregational meeting.
During this short meeting we will have a presentation that will highlight the things we most value about our congregation and what resources are needed for us to be at our very best together. Based on a new stewardship strategy that emphasizes transparency and broader participation, this meeting will be led by our Interim Minister, Rev. Michael Howard, and our Moderator, Paul Breda.
It will not only be very informative but exciting and energizing, challenging us to imagine all the things our congregation can become together.
Mark your calendars and spread the word: Sunday, October 7th, following our Communion Sunday service.
