Envision the Future Celebration: September 24th

On September 24th, the Envision Team will propose the following vision statement: 

“To be a progressive, inclusive community of seekers serving others, while challenging ourselves to understand and practice the teachings of Jesus.”

On Sunday, September 24 following worship service, Brookside Church will be holding a special meeting and celebration from 10:00 to 10:30am. During the Celebration, the congregation will come together to adopt our final vision statement.

 SEARCH UPDATE:

MEMBERS OF THE SETTLED SEARCH COMMITTEE will be hosting Coffee Hour this Sunday, September 17.  They will be available to answer questions about the recently released section of the Brookside Community Church profile "Who Are We Now?" and discuss next steps in the search process.   If you have not yet seen a copy, go to the church website brooksidechurch.org/search-update and enter the password Brookside7926. If you prefer a hard copy, please leave a message at the church office, 973-543-7229.  Committee members are Jack Miller, David Sampson, Gina Bruno, Joe Koeberl, Karen Burns Rutigliano and Edna Ierley-Byrne.

CE MISSION PROJECT FOR OCTOBER

October is Missions Month at Brookside. The children will be leading the congregation in a shared missions project. The Sunday School children will be hosting a fill-a-basket service project to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry. We will kick off this service project on October 1st during the worship service. The children will begin to collect filled food baskets on November 5th, and we will dedicate the collected goods on Stewardship Sunday, November 12th.

For the remainder of the summer, we will invite the congregation to choose a favorite hymn to sing during our Sunday worship service. Be thinking of which hymns you love the best, feel free to let us know ahead of time!


SUMMER COFFEE HOUR HOSTS NEEDED – Hosts are needed for this Sunday, August 13 and September 3.  During the summer months, hosting Coffee Hour consists of preparing 2 pitchers each of lemonade and iced tea. Coffee and tea is not served. Hosts have provided simple snacks such as fruit and coffee cake, but these snacks are NOT a requirement for coffee hour hosts to supply. AIR CONDITIONERS NEEDED

The Mental Health Association of Morris County needs our help.  With the hot weather quickly approaching they are in great need of new or used window air conditioners (5,000- 8,000 BTUs).  Their clients are on medications that can affect body heat which can lead to heat related illnesses.  It is important for them to stay cool when there are periods of high temperatures and humidity. Due to their limited income or no income, they cannot afford to purchase air conditioners.  If you can help, please contact Sue Browse at thebrowses@msn.com

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY -THIS SUNDAY

This is our last Sunday before the summer- it’s going to be exciting!  During our family worship service we will: receive communion, the children will be performing a skit, families will lead the service, we will be receiving new members, and will celebrate the seniors who are graduating.  It’s going to be fun and relaxing.  Feel free to wear jeans/shorts and your favorite team jerseys. 

Church Picnic

DON’T MISS IT! THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 11 CHURCH PICNIC AT LEWIS-MORRIS PARK - We will be having a church-wide picnic at Lewis-Morris Park.  Our families can relax and enjoy an afternoon outdoors together, sharing food, conversation, and playing games. There will also be a time for learning, team building, and engagement as Pastor Michael leads us through an interactive lesson about becoming the Beloved Community. The picnic will take place at in the Sugarloaf area (shelter A and area B). Please bring along your friends for an afternoon of fun.

Women's Luncheon

Patriot's Race Pancake Breakfast

ALL HANDS ON DECK! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!  PATRIOTS’ RACE 5K – BROOKSIDE CHURCH’S FIRST ANNUAL COMMUNITY PANCAKE BREAKFAST (JUNE 17) - Each year, Mendham Township hosts the Patriots' 5K, bringing folks from all around to run and enjoy our scenic Brookside. Conveniently, this event begins and ends just outside our front door. This year, our church will be inviting the community to come in after the race and enjoy pancakes. Races begin at 9am and we will open our doors to the public at 9:30am. Our church is looking for anyone who would be willing to offer their time and resources to make this day a hit for our church and for the whole community! Volunteers will be needed to set up, prepare food, serve, and clean up -- on Saturday, June 17th from 8am to 12:30pm. If you would be willing to help, please contact the church office for more information.
