COMMUNIty OUtreach

As a “community church,” we take seriously our role in the wider community. Explore below to find out more about how we support partner organizations, collaborate with other churches, and create opportunities for community members. “Church” is not just something we do on Sunday mornings. We practice being the Church every day in how we conduct ourselves in the wider world.

Creating opportunities

As a community church, we continue to evaluate what we can offer for the support and encouragement of the wider community

Thursday zoom Gathering

When getting together in person wasn’t possible, we started a seniors’ gathering on Thursday afternoons via Zoom. We found that this was a great way to keep connected with friends who had moved away and others who weren’t able to get out as much.

integrated spirituality

We invite local experts to lead us in practices that explore different ways to deepen and expand our sense of spirituality and enrich our lives. As people who strive for justice and seek a path filled with more connection, love, wisdom, and joy, these spiritual practices provide ways to re-center and attend to the holistic well-being of our body, mind, and spirit.

community events

From hosting a table at Pride to sponsoring social justice book readings to organizing local food drives to hosting our neighbors - there are always opportunities to bring God’s love into the world.

Interfaith Collaborations

We value diversity and appreciate all of the ways that people encounter and understand the divine. Both within our pews and within our community, we find what unites us is far more important than our disagreements. Thus, Brookside is proud to partner with those who support and uplift the community while seeking justice and equity for all God’s children.

Mendham Faith Leaders

Partnering with other local churches, we’ve offered movie discussion nights on race, racism, oppression, and voting rights. In addition, faith leaders have served as a resource for one another as we face what it means to be faith communities in the midst of a pandemic. We’ve shared Bible studies with Faith Lutheran, been a presence at a Black Lives Matter prayer vigil, and seek to use our collective voices for the good of all.

Hilltop Presbyterian, Community of St. John the Baptist, Grace Lutheran, St. Mark’s Episcopal, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church have been the most active partners.

NJ Together

New Jersey Together is a growing, broad-based coalition in northern New Jersey, creating a multi-faith, multi-issue, and strictly non-partisan partnership among religious congregations, non-profits, neighborhood organizations, and parent groups to develop leaders, strengthen communities, & seek justice.

Recognizing the power of working together, NJ Together challenges ordinary people to identify problems facing their neighborhoods & cities, connect individuals & organizations to multiply their power, and mobilize people to bring about change. Locally, NJ Together is connected through the Morristown Interfaith Association.
